Pops : Do consumers understand the labels? Home
In
November 2002, Kath Dalmeny from the Food
Commission gave her opinion on the following issues
concerning GMO's and food product labelling.
I asked Kath how relevant she thought it best to inform
the consumer whether GM derivatives were in products like
maize and vegetable oils?
And how food security awareness is filtered to the consumer?
Do you think the consumer has concerns over the food they consume?
Are the consumers concerned about the contamination of GM proteins?
Do GM products exist on the supermarket shelves anymore?
Do you know of any food product which contained GM proteins?
Presently there's no obligation for manufacturers to provide the full eight nutrients on packaging, are there any changes in the pipeline?
Are consumers still confused over the terminology of labels?
Have the Food Commission produced any paraphernalia on the issue
Consumer
